Fitness is an overwhelming topic. Are you counting your macros? Are you adding weights? What are your goals? Sometimes it feels like you need a PhD and a business plan just to get started! With so many workout programs available you feel more and more discouraged every time you "fail" to commit.
You are not the only one finding reasons to not workout. Here are the top reasons, many women are not reaching their fitness goals..... and there is a common thread.
Not enough time!
It's too difficult... AKA- IT'S BORING!
I tried and have not lost any weight!
Working out in front of other people is intimidating!
So basically the core reason that you might be failing in fitness is the lack of inspiration. While the topic of fitness is based on the idea of "working out" it should never be about work. Finding a way to move your body in a way that feels good should be the first step. Even a walk around the neighborhood on a nice day or a hike in nature is a great way to get started! Trick your body by enjoying the moment then it will want to do it again.
The most difficult part of fitness is creating a habit, one where you do not feel like you unless you move. Once that has begun then increase the intensity by asking yourself, "How can I make this a little more challenging?" This is where you track progress. And once you make an activity something you enjoy and want to push yourself everything else will fall into place. You no longer care if other people are watching because this is for you! You not longer worry about the weight because when progress is measured in your ability to conquer physical challenges then the weight will come off. Fitness is no longer difficult because your inspired, motivated, and crave the feeling. And there will always be time because if it is something you want to do it becomes a must in self care. All of the complications fall away because the more active you become your body will tell you what it needs for fuel. Sugar and heavy carbs will leave you sluggish and overeating won't provide the same comfort you find in physical activity.
Never give up finding a physical activity you love. Try dancing or Zumba, try swimming or running, try Yoga or spin class, or try my favorite....Kickboxing!! Maybe it won't be the actual activity that gets you started but a supportive class, an energetic friend, or just those few moments outside breathing fresh air. Once you find the reason that is just for you then any other reason to not workout will fall away. Fitness is not about perfection, it is about enjoying the ability to move your body and have fun!!
