One Punch At A Time

I read.... all of the time! If I'm not working out, coaching, mothering, or managing my life I am reading. Most of my books are about confidence, self development, mindset, and growth. These books are now a habit, my personal wellness is a habit, and it all started with small steps.
Many times when we set fitness goals we look at the end game, the ultimate results. Everyday we make the choice to eat healthy or go to the gym we compare our current selves with the future self. Rather than enjoying the process of creating these small healthier habits we feel discouraged because why haven't we lost the weight yet? Why does "looking good" come so easy to some while you stress over every calorie, sweat on the treadmill just a few more minutes, and rob yourself of everything you once enjoyed?
First of all, comparison is the quickest way to misery, even when you compare today to some future image. It takes you out of the moment to enjoy the habits you are creating that will build a healthy life, including your self image. The smallest habits, steps towards your goals, will last, they are not quick fixes. Ask yourself.... if you woke up tomorrow looking the way your want, as fit as you want, would you workout? Or are you good enough because mission accomplished? What would your mindset be at that moment? If you gave up the healthy life because you now fit in those jeans you are in a worse position than when you began your journey.
Your habits are what determines the outcome of your life. The people you surround yourself with strongly influence both your habits and mindset. Do these people support your goals? Are they positive? Do they strive for a healthy life style? What are their typical routines and habits? What is their self worth? Look at the life you are building and who is in your circle. These people may be wonderful people but need to play a different role in your life if they influence your best self.
So wake up each morning, think one positive thought about yourself. Make once small change that gets you closer to your goal, then make another. Build the habits you need to live your best life. That is what will sustain you way past the point of fitting in your jeans. There is no quick fix. Jumping past those steps will not get you anywhere faster, you have to take one step at a time.
If you want to know where my insight comes from I suggest you read the "Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy.
