Have you every tried to YouTube a kickboxing workout? Most of them that are available are more aerobic style steps with some flailing arms and legs posing as punches and kicks or your watching guys beating each other up in a ring. Why is it so hard to find an instructional video that teaches women how to properly punch or kick?
Kickboxing has been dominated by men for too long! The health benefits of taking on this sport, whether you ever spar, are better designed for women for many reasons.
1. You learn real self defense moves
When properly taught, kickboxing teaches you how to protect yourself and throw counterstrikes. The exercises create body awareness which helps improve situational awareness.
2. High calorie burning routines
Combining jabs, hooks, and roundhouse kicks for only a few minutes is great for cardio. Add some 16 oz gloves while holding your hands up to protect your face burns and tones your muscles.
3. You won't bulk up.... unless you want to
Kickboxing is a total body workout. Most of the strength in your punches come from the ground, up through the core, and finally through the fist. Every movement engages the whole body which tones and strengthens without adding any heavy weights that add bulk.
4. Improves rhythm, coordination, and flexibility
Kickboxing requires your whole body moving, in a flow, and with power. Jab, cross, kick, jab, cross, kick, step, block, kick. There is a choreography to learning the moves and when you add a workout partner, you have to learn to respond to their movements and block or counterstrikes. As you progress in kickboxing you can improve flexibility for higher kicks or even more powerful kicks!
5. Can incorporate into other workout programs
Some people enjoy playing some dance music and break out some moves during their workout. You can always add some HIITs with your combinations or even some yoga at the end of a powerful performance.
6. Any fitness level can start
To get started you learn how to stand, then throw various punches, then a few good kicks. Since everyone has different capabilities you can start right off of the couch. As you learn, you can add in footwork, combinations, and even a partner to hold mitts. Even people who have been into fitness for years are being drawn to kickboxing for the extra challenge.
7.CONFIDENCE BOOST!!
Sometimes life can become overwhelming and you really just want to fight back! Having a way to let out that energy releases that negative energy so you can focus with a clear head. You get to physically hear the "Smack" as you hit the bag or watch it swing back and forth as you let your power out. Plus!! There is a positive image, or stigma, that those who kickbox are tough and not someone to mess with.
Women deserve to feel powerful and discover their inner strength while developing the outer strength. Women deserve to be challenged physically, mentally, and work their entire body. Kickboxing is a powerful fitness platform that every woman should try at least once in their journey.
